Remedial massage
Remedial massage is used to treat and promote recovery from a variety of conditions or injuries, whether sport, work or every day life related, for example:
- a muscle strain when you over stretched, whether on a tennis court or under the kitchen sink
- tennis elbow
- twisted ankle
- a sore back or shoulder from digging the garden or painting the ceiling
- a work related problem such as prolonged use of a computer mouse causing neck and shoulder pain
All the basics of Swedish massage are used in remedial therapy, and with the addition of deeper, more specialised techniques, joint mobilisations and specific stretches, can:
- reduce pain and swelling
- restore mobility
- improve the circulation
- shorten the recovery period
- aid rehabilitation
Remedial massage works extremely well in the treatment of painful conditions or injuries of muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. It is also useful in preventing recurrence of a problem.
What you can expect in a remedial session
- discussion on your general health, and the details and history of your problem or injury.
- assessment of your condition
- formulation of a treatment plan
- treatment specific to your injury/condition
- review of your progress in subsequent treatments where necessary
Treatment will vary depending on the problem. Different types of massage, stretches, and mobilisation of joints may all be used, some of which may require your participation. At PNTC only, laser can also be used where appropriate to enhance the effect. Following treatment, Lynn will assess what improvement has been achieved during the session, and may suggest some exercises or stretches for you to carry out at home.
