Holistic or Swedish Massage
Massage has been used in all cultures throughout history to promote healing and relaxation. Swedish massage is named after Per Henrik Ling, a Swede who developed the scientific system of massage strokes on which modern massage is based. There are three main reasons why it might be right for you:
- Muscle tension and stiffness
Because massage improves the circulation and speeds up the removal of toxins, it is excellent for relieving muscle tension and stiffness, maybe because you have overdone things a bit in the garden or gym, or maybe when you are recovering from illness. - Stress
A major benefit of Swedish massage is in helping you to deal with the effects of stress. When we are stressed, our bodies go into 'fight or flight' mode, adrenaline flowing, brain sharp, and body ready for action. That is great in an emergency, but over time your sleep can be disturbed, your stomach can give you problems, you have headaches and feel on edge. Massage helps to overcome this by reversing the process, encouraging your body to move to a repair and maintenance state. You relax physically and mentally, feel less anxious and sleep better. Massage also makes you breathe more deeply, so your body has more oxygen to help with repairs, for example, of your stomach. - Pampering yourself
Finally, massage makes you feel good - so maybe that is the only reason you need to come along, whether on a one off, or regular basis!
What you can expect in a holistic/Swedish massage session

- Discussion on what you hope the massage will achieve
- Massage tailored to your needs - for example, gentle or firm, relaxing or invigorating
- Follow on advice and review of your progress in subsequent sessions, if required.
